Social work, theology, elementary education majors - listen up.  If you care about making more money when you graduate, you might want to reconsider your major. Payscale.com has released a ranking of the best-paying college degrees - and your majors were not on top.  In fact, they were at the very bottom!

The survey found that the major with the best salary upon graduation was chemical engineering but the major with the best salary at mid-career was aerospace engineering.  Here's the list of top 10 best-paying college majors:

  • Aerospace engineering: $59,600 (starting median salary); $109,000 (mid-career median salary)
  • Chemical engineering: $65,700; $107,000
  • Computer engineering: $61,700; $105,000
  • Electrical engineering: $60,200; $102,000
  • Economics: $50,200; $101,000
  • Physics: $51,100; $98,800
  • Mechanical engineering: $58,900; $98,300
  • Computer science: $56,400; $97,400
  • Industrial engineering: $57,100; $95,000
  • Environmental engineering: $53,400; $94,500


Compare the above salaries with those of a social work major ($33,400 median starting salary or $41,600 median mid-career salary) or a elementary education major ($33,000 median starting salary or $42,400 median mid-career salary) and you'll see the difference is vast.
